General La may decided that the best way to end the war was to blow up as many Japanese as possible using incendiary bombs. The b29s flew at night to avoid fighters and dropped their bombs from about 8000 feet for accuracy. Was it successful in ending the war sooner than later? I have no idea.

Fire bombing were usually done at night to terrorize and to keep the people from sleeping so they had a hard time working the next day

The homes were made out of flimsy wood so they burned easier. Th ereason for it was that we were in a terrible war with Japan who would not surrender so we used everything in our arsenal. War is terrible and terrible things happen.
