Well, "towards the horizon" changes relative to a star depending on how far through the sky it has travelled. I would imagine that Spica is the one you're seeing.

If you draw an arc from the handle of the big dipper towards Arcturus, and then continue it onwards, and it crosses the star in question, then it would indeed be Spica. Otherwise, find an online star chart and check that.
