Wrong Turn
Jaws
The Hills Have Eyes (old and new)
The Exorcist
The Howling
Bad Moon
Dog Soldiers
Venom
...and if you can find them....
Don't be afraid of the Dark with Kim Darby, Jim Hutton
The Night Stalker , Darrin McGavin
Fearles Vampire Killers (The Roman Polanski one)
The Hitcher (Rutger, and C Thomas Howell)
Joy Ride
These are a few of my favorite things....
(Cujo)... When the dog bites.
(Candyman) When the bee stings.
(The Stuff) When I'm feeling sad....
I simply remember my favorite things ( Grizzly, Christine, The Stand... It, Let them Die Slowly)
...and then I don't feel so bad (Motel Hell, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Egah with Richard Kiel, any Elvira classic)
Hope this helps!

My family are Horror experts...my father travels all over the country all year to Horror conventions!!
I LOVE horror movies and have seen them all. I like "ghostly" scary movies or ones that deal with heaven/hell.
The Exorcist is,by far, the scariest movie i have ever seen!! The newer version on it has a few minutes of deleted scenes. Those few minutes made the move 100% more scary!!
The original OMEN and the remake are AWESOME!!
M. Night Shamalyn (sp?) movies are not only creepy, but REALLY interesting!!
The old and new Amittyville are great!!
hmmm....
Oh, the Skeleton Key is a really cool movie...the plot is awesome!
I just watched the Descent last night and although the reviews were awesome...i thought it was cheezy and slow moving!
I almost forget...the Exorcism of Emily Rose and An AMerican Haunting are creepy movies!!
My family and i went to see a few movies during the "8 movies to die for" series that took place all over the US a few months ago and let me tell you...most of the films were awesome, but hard to get ahold of...check those out.

I tried to pick stuff that didn't seem to be mentioned much already:
Cannibal Holocaust
Men Behind the Sun
Titanic (just kidding)
Audition (more unsettling than scary)
Tale of Two Sisters
Beyond the Darkness
the Brood
the Coffin Joe films are interesting to say the least
Curse of the Crying Woman
Dead Alive (possibly bloodiest zombie film ever made and produced by Peter Jackson, who did Lord of the Rings and King Kong)
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
I Stand Alone
1922 version of Nosferatu
Singapore Sling
Street Trash (fun, not horrific)
Witch's Mirror
zombie holocaust
August Underground's Mordum
zombie
Aftermath

Original Black Christmas (also has some awesome comedy - listen for the phone number given by Margot kidder in the police station)
Hills have Eyes (Original and new)
I have a Horror fest tweice a year and we always play a funny one with the scary ones, and Shaun of the dead covers both aspects very well!

This is what i think the decent really bad movie not at all scary nor was it any good one of the baddest movies ever made, hills have eyes again not at all scary, the omen original and even the remake really bad not scary. the exorcist original may of been scary in its time but not anymore. i would go on hostel which is not really scary but more if a gore factor. there are not alot of horror movies that are scary these days

First of all I suggest steering away from any American films, most of them nowadays are remakes or sequels, not very original. I suggest getting either The Eye, The Maid, or Phone. They're Asian horror flicks and my personal favorites.

Scary movies and not the newer ones, eh? Try looking for things from Dario Argento. Also for an out and out gore feast with negligible story try the unrated version of Dead Alive. (Peter Jackson is attached to that one)
