A friend just offered me a job in Iraq and my son starts college this fall, I don't have the money. I think this would help him in a great way. He has a 4.57 GPA from taking AP classes. So I know he is very serious about his education. I will miss his High School graduation, but I think I need to do this! What are your thoughts, he is scared for me?

Of course he is scared for you! You are his dad and you are thinking about going to a war zone! I have to agree with the others..with his GPA he should be able to get scholarships and/or grants to help pay for his schooling. I as a parent admire the reason why you want to take the job. If he has a 4.57 GPA, he is not only serious about school, he is cheating! Seriously, if your friend is offering you a job in Iraq, is he going to offer you some protection as well? If you're not staying on a military base, do NOT go! It's just not worth the extra money if you lose your life. Get a second job if you really want to help your son.

I think you will be fine, especially if you are a government contractor. Cake job, good money. BUT....I have a serious issue with this whole, "you need to pay for his school" You mean to tell me with a 4.57 his *** didnt get a scholorship?>>?? If he didnt get one he should be offered one like I was on my first semester. My first semsester I had a 4.0 and they called me up and gave me the Presidential Honors Scholarship. So, case in point, if you are going over there simply to pay for his school that is not the most brilliant thing I have ever heard since he is obviously capable of getting a scholoship of his own. Of course it is a hostile area, but that is the chance you take. I think you need to ask yourself what is the main goal.....you can get a job in the states too......But im assuming its decent otherwise you wouldnt do it....lots of people I used to know when I was in the Army got out and did the little Brown and Root stint, govt. contractors, 100,000 g's and up a year tax free and come back....anways, up to you- but tell him if hes that concerned he should be applying for scholoship money, its freaking everywhere Im telling you.

You're a good dad, but with his good grades couldn't he get grants or scholarships of some sort? Especially if you are short on money, grants should be available.
If these two are not options, than I think you should see how he feels. After all, if something happens to you and he knows you went over there for him, he could feel alot of guilt. I wouldn't go unless he was ok with it; not totally happy mind you, but understanding the different reasons.

If they pay enough then go for it. I heard that you can make something like $20,000- $30,000 a month working as a mercenary for blackwater. I have a military background myself and I almost did it but I want to finish college first.

you wearing some orange overall kneeling in front of some heavily armed guys where one of them is about to cut your throat...
