Green Day were punk, now they're only a commercial band. I can't stand Blink 182! Really punk bands are: - The Misfits - Sex Pistols - Ramones - The Stooges - The Clash - The Damned - The Stranglers - Johnny Thunders They're the heart of punk.

"rock music" is a very vague category but here are a few of my favorites and some of their best songs:
brand new - "degausser," "you won't know," the quiet things that no one ever knows"
the mars volta - "televators," "roulette dares (the haunting of)"
lydia - "december," "a story for supper"
portugal. the man - "marching with 6," "gold fronts"
circa survive - "act appalled," "oh, hello"
norma jean - "i used to hate cell phones, now i hate car accidents," "memphis will be laid to waste"
underoath - "in regards to myself," "everyone looks so good from up here"
terminal - "maps," "wisher"
the chariot - "yanni depp," "donnie cash"
cursive - "butcher the song," "am i not yours?"
some are more "rock" than others, it really depends on what style you're looking for. they're all amazing though so get to downloading.

newer: blink 182, goldfinger(ska too), jimmy eat world, fall out boy (old albums are better)
older: Led Zepplin, the who, the ramones, cream, ACDC, metallica
theres so much more and these are a very limited selection of styles of rock.

I myself really like Def Leppard. I also like Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Poison, Motly Crue,.... the list goes on and on but my personal favorite is Def Leppard.
