ok so last week in school my friend a typical troublemaker had a piece of salami thrown in his face at lunch and he chucked a carton of milk at the kid and hit him and it exploded all over the place. he got 5 days of lunch detention because of it. Today me and my friends left the cafeteria and went upstairs to the lockers to get my friends locker un-jammed. When we were walking back to the cafeteria the assistant principal stopped us and she made her come in to her office because we never signed out on the sign-out sheet in the cafeteria. F.Y.I, 3/4 of the school leaves the cafeteria without signing out. So anyway she gave me and my 3 friends 2 days each of lunch detention because we didn't sign out. Is it me or compared to what happened to my friend with the milk does it seem unfair to me and my friends that we got detention for that long???

We always teach our kindergarteners that if someone does something to them and they do something back that both will get in trouble. He broke the rules..he paid. You didn't sign out to leave the cafeteria..I don't care if 99% of the school doesn't do it..it's a rule..you broke it..you pay..sorry..it's life.

If it was against the rules and you knew it, then it is fair.

An analogy is driving 40 in a 30 zone - one guy gets by, the next is staring at a radar gun and gets a ticket. Fair? Yes, we have to know that our actions sometimes produce results that we may not like, but have to live with.

Having said the above, if people are constantly doing things w/o repercussions and you and your friends are getting nailed, then I would discuss it with the principal. Enforcement "should" be equal for everyone.

Well, the rules are the rules. I think that the 3/4 of people that don't sign out don't get caught or for some reason they don't look at the time of sign out. It just so happen...Wrong place at the wrong time for you.

that is very odd because of the overly large difference between the wrongdoings. i would appeal to the principle if you could. or talk it over with the assistant priciple

If you don't follow the rules you are liable for getting punishment.
