I live in California, I have requested my landlord to install fire alarms in my apartment, there is NONE, I have been waiting for him for 10 months, last week I had a fire and now I am supossed to pay for the repairs, even though I was sleeping when the fire started (right outside the front door) I still reminded him of the fire alarms, it has been a week and he doesn't seem to even remember. What the hell can I do???

(I know I can buy them myself but I mean legally with the landlord, I want him to feel my anger for not listening to me! :p )

call your local fire department, or fire marshall.
by law, the landlord had to have firealarms.
it is only your responsibility to replace the batteries

You need a lawyer. If you cannot afford one then you can go on line and find the Legal Aid Society in your section of California.

I do not think you are liable for the repairs unless it can be proven that you started the fire. The landlord is responsible for installing and maintaining smoke alarms for tenants in Texas, I would assume it is the same in California.

each state is different but I would think it would be the law to have fire alrams. I would contact your local city and have them help point you in the right direction of turning your landlord in.

That'll sure teach HIM a lesson if you burn to death in a fire.

Principles won't save your life. Just buy the alarms yourself and deduct the cost from your next rent payment.

Go to the fire hall and ask them what the laws are for this. They would know or tell you where to go.
