If your 1.9 is a result of really blowing it in your freshman year you may be able to explain this in your essay and so don't rule out a college if you would prefer to go in that direction. CC are really open to ANYONE. You can also look at your state university system...some of the lower enrolled ones will often have easier admission standards (sometimes as easy as CC).

i pretty much agree w/ what everyone else says. i dont think you have a choice since 1.9 is a damn low gpa. go to a local city college, get a part time job, and do well in your classes. you'll probably be able to pay for the cheap classes at your local CC with the money you make from work, but if not you could apply for financial aid. the great thing about city college is that once you've had a certain amount of units/credits, most universities don't bother looking at your high school transcript when you apply for transfering. some don't even care if you have a diploma. pick out a 4-yr university and figure out what prereqs you need to take for transfer considerations. maintain above a 3.5 gpa at city college and you're almost guarenteed a spot at a respected university. if you dont have enough cash to take classes at the university (or pay for tuition), then seek student loans. just make sure you work your *** off in city college because at this point theres really no room for mistakes.

hope that helps, good luck.

Check out this page...

http://www.ctcl.com/why/myths.htm

and then read the rest of that whole CTCL site. Maybe buy the book too,if you like it.

That SAT looks good but I'm sure you know the 1.9 gpa is your real problem. You may have to start out at a community college for a couple years to prove yourself to a four-year school. You can still get done in four years. Keep after your goals. Don't get down. The fact that you want to go to college is a big plus.

go to a community college for all your basics. do well and you can get into a good 4 year. with a 1.9 on a 4.0 that's less then a c average. most 4 years won't take you. the community colleges will take most anyone, and if you just take a couple courses to start, it will show you how vastly different college is compared to high school. it is really no where near the same. you are expected to work for your grades, not just show up five days a week. college courses will only meet for three hours a week for a three hour course. four hour courses are science courses such as chemistry and meet three hours for class lecture time and as long as three hours for the once a week lab, usually in the afternoon.
a full load is 12 hours, but most full time boarded studemnts take 15-18 hours of classes. study time is nearly twice that long so working is usually limited to 20-30 hours a week for the semester of 16-18 weeks. that's hard to do and requires real willingness to keep your grades up. finals, usually three hours long per course, are completed at the end of the semester.,

Start at a community college. They are inexpensive compared to state and private institutions.
They will take most anyone on. If your are 18-24, you are an dependent, so your parents income will factor in on the decision of how much pell grants you will get. If you only have one parent working a minimum wage job, then you will get full pell which will take care of most of the community college tutition bill. You will just have to find a way to get $800 extra a semester.

You will need to fill out a FAFSA form. Just go to google.com and type in FAFSA and it will take you to the site.

If your parents makes $30,000 a year; you will not receive any pell. The government considers that well off.

Read your books several times and attend every class and hopefully you will do good enough to land a good job.

Good-luck man!

Your GPA is kind of low. This is what I suggest you do, my counselors gave this advice at a college meeting for 11th graders.

Apply to a local community college, they tend to be a lot cheaper anyway. Take all of your necessary classes (Englishes, Maths, Sciences) and then transfer into that school's sister school. Your credits will all transfer if you go to the sister school (a 4 year college) and if you studied hard your GPA will be good. Plus, it'll save you a good bit of money for when you are just getting started at your new job, fresh out of college and probably ready to move.

You can get a job if you are doing good in school, but make your main focus be on your studies. The better you do in school the better your life will be afterwards.

Good luck, and study hard!

Local community college, and live at home. Get a part-time job also, and things can't be any cheaper for a college education.
