Is that what they work as if they dropped out of school?

A job is a job, little one! I worked as a janitor when I was 13 until I was 18. I made some of the best money there was! You would be surprised how well a job like that can pay. They also have great benefits! I didn't drop out of school, or stop learning because I cleaned floors for a living. Had to make money some way.

I've personally known two women in their twenties who worked as janitors at different places.

When I was in college, a few of the girls who cleaned our dorms in the morning were young hispanic women, I think a few were about 18. They probably did the job because they had no other opportunities.

actually some high schools offer work/study during summer and allow kids from lower economic backgrounds to earn money as a janitor's apprentice.

Yes, actually, the one I met was employed by her aunt's contract cleaning company. She worked summer full-time, and part time in the evenings. They mostly cleaned commercial sites, so most of the work was in the evenings after the businesses were closed.
