no you can purposely miss a free throw to get the rebound as long as the ball hits the rim, it cannot airball or hit only the backboard. you also must not commit a lane violation. it is pretty hard to get the rebound as the shooter but much easier for one of your teammates to get board off the intentional miss.

No, it's perfectly legal. It's done towards the end of a close game, where the team shooting the free throw is down by 3 points, for example. They would purposely miss the free throw and try to get the rebound, and then shoot a 3-pointer to tie the game. One thing to keep in mind is that when shooting a free throw, you must hit the rim, otherwise the ball goes to the other team.

hell no as long as it hits the rim. just think theres only 3 seconds left and your on the free throw line with one more throw. The opponent has a 2 point lead. The best thing to do intentionally miss the free throw and crash the boards for the rebound and a follow up to force OT or if you get lucky a long rebound and 3 to win. If hit the last throw you'll still be down by one and it is harder to to steal the ball than to collar the rebound.

No, as long as the ball hits the rim before the free throw shooters crosses the free throw line to get the rebound. If the player crosses the line before the ball hits the rim, it's a lane violation.

No, teams down 2 points late in the game with one free throw do it all the time. The only rule is you have to hit the rim. If you air ball or only hit backboard its the other teams' ball.
