You should research different toy breeds (AKC.ORG has good breed profiles) and see which one would best fit your lifestyle and activity level. Also you could type Dog Breed Selector into a search engine. These have you fill out a short form about your expectations and your lifestyle and help you find the perfect breed. Good luck!

I was never crazy about small dogs until I met a Shih-Tzu. I fell in love with my brothers Shih-Tzus over 20 years ago, and since then, I've had two. I just lost the momma to old age, and I still have her son, who is elderly now.

They are loving, calm, not snappy or barky. Have never seen an ankle biting Shih-Tzu.

Maybe I'm one sided, but theres just NOTHING more sweet, cuddly, loving, funny, cute, etc. as a Shih-Tzu! They're great car dogs too!

A Pavilion, or Pomeranian. The best of both worlds is a Pavilion-Pom. My parents just lost their Pavilion-Pom after 17 years. She was so smart, funny, cute, faithful, and I could go on for a long time, but I suggest one of these dogs.

Check out ww.AKC.org to find out about the different breeds, look at the Toy Group, check out the Parent Clubs to find local Breeders/Rescue, and more information about the breed.
Try to go to local dog shows to meet breeds.
Go To www.PetFinder.com once you find a breed/breed mixes and look for one to rescue.
In addition talk to a local Dog trainer who may be able to help you understand what you want in a dog.

YORKSHIRE TERRIER! OR EVEN SMALLER A MALTESE!! I have both and they are both extremely pleasing dogs! Yorkshire terriers have quite a history on them too. They were bred for their hearing, hence the amazingly cute big ears, and I believe you know the star ToTo from Wizard of Oz? Case closed!

Rat Terriers are a very smart and gentle breed! As of right now I have 4 of them. I have 2 adults and 2 puppies--3 girls and one boy. They are easily potty trained and they are very loyal. Each of my dogs have a personality all of their own. They are really great!!

Either a Jack Russell Terrier, they are very energetic and lovable, or even a Rat Terrier they are also lovable and cute and they are both small dogs.

I would get a Whippet or a Boston Terrier; not too SMALL (like Chihuahuas,) or too high-maintenance (like a Toy Poodle or a Maltese,) or too non-existant (such as the afore-mentioned "Pavilion".)

I like hot dogs, and they come in packs.

Joking aside, I like the Yorkshire Terrier and the Boston Terrier
