I have some Tylenol 3 that my dentist gave me a few weeks ago for wisdom tooth pain. I never took it. Right now I am having unbearable menstrual cramps and I have taken midol (earlier in the day) and drank raspberry leaf tea. Nothing has helped. Would it be all right to take 1 tablet of Tylenol 3? It is labeled as acetominophen with codeine.

Please advise soon! :(

You would probably get more relief from taking 800mg of ibuprofen (4 advils) without the drowsy side effects of the codeine. Ibuprofen is usually more effective for menstrual cramps than acetominpohen. But don't take the Advil if you have already taken the Tylenol #3.

Tylenol 3 should work.
I usually take about 3-4 Advil's depending on how bad my cramps are.

Motrin 200mg. OTC....You can take 3-4 every 6 hours, which is equivalant to a 600mg or an 800mg prescription strength. If your menses are regular, start a day before you are due, and continue for the days you normally have pain. Do't slack off...Keep it in your system. This is a good remedy, as long as you aren't allergic to Asperin products.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking acetaminophen?

You should not take acetaminophen if you are allergic to it, or if you have severe liver disease.
Do not take acetaminophen without a doctor's advice if you have ever had alcoholic liver disease (cirrhosis) or if you drink more than 3 alcoholic beverages per day. You may not be able to take acetaminophen.
Your doctor will determine whether acetaminophen is safe for you to use during pregnancy. Do not use this medicine without the advice of your doctor if you are pregnant.
Acetaminophen can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Do not give this medicine to a child younger than 2 years old without the advice of a doctor.
