I cami is usually worn under a top. And it's straps are like spagetti straps. While a tank top is usually worn alone and has thick straps.

Cami is short for camisole, which is a type of ladies' lingerie. It was originally meant to be worn under clothing, as a type of "undershirt" for women before the days of bras and stuff, and traditionally was made from lingerie fabrics, with bra-like/adjustable straps and lots of lacy trims, like lingerie. Now, however, they are worn more like outer wear much of the time, and that makes them virtually indistinguishable from tank tops, which have always been considered outer wear. Tank tops are almost always knit, though, and until recently, camisoles were not. Hope this helps.
