I need to plant grass in an area that is going to be trampled on by lots of dogs on almost a daily basis. What type of seed could I get that will produce a thick, strong turf?

I dont give your grass much of a chance if you are starting it from seed, but if you were to use sod your chances would improve greatly. I would go with a Zoysia grass. I have taken care of a yard that had to big golden retrievers - the dogs would jump in and out of the water feature (muddying up the yard) then roughhouse all over it and it stayed full and beautiful even when the dogs where at their roughest. I was amazed! Around here, 50 sq yds will cost you about $100 at the sod farm or if you have to get it at a resale place it will cost $180.

I have tried to seed with the Zoysia in my own back yard and I have 2 dogs. Even tried different techniques to cover the seed, but I have had no results that I noticed.

Good luck, hope this helps!

Of course this depends on where you live. Contact the local Agricultural Extension Service. Go to oneglobe.com/agricultural/extension/html" (I don't know how to make it blue) and the list on the left side of the page begins with "United States". Click on United Stated and that will show you your nearest service.

The staff will answer any and all questions regarding your inquiry.

fescue with a mixture of rye. Dogs are hard on grass though, so you might want to consider a dogrun.
