1) Daniel Webster of Massachusetts, said these words on January 26th, 1830.

2) Amphibious warfare is the utilization of naval firepower, logistics and strategy to place military power beyond the shoreline. Amphibious landing must occur on a suitable ocean-facing beach. It was a tactic first used by the British.

American forces first used it during the American Civil war, whereby the confederate coastline was attacked by amphibious assaults.

The largest/1st major assault was at Fort Fisher, which was the largest and most powerful fort in the world at the time of the American Civil War. The fort protected the entrance of Wilmington, North Carolina. It was the most powerful amphibious assault in world history at that time and was not surpassed until D-Day 1944.

3) If you look at British colonies, they were usually colonized and the British used the resources of their colonies to develop the mother country, so did the Dutch, Portuguese, French, Belgians, Turks--Ottoman Empire etc.
