As with all the answers above, you are perfectly normal in this regard! The menstrual cycle is erratic during the first couple of years. If thats all you want to know, you can stop reading now. If you want to know the "why" though, this is the abridged explanation.

You see, to be 'able' to bleed, your hormones (estrogen and progesterone - these can be thought to be signal transmitters in the body...) need to reach a certain level, and to do so, you need to ovulate (your reproductive organs, the ovaries, need to release an egg). In an adult woman, this occurs in regular cycles or 25-35 days. As your young system is still in it's early stages of maturity, this doesn't always happen (what we call erratically anovulatory), and so your hormone levels are insufficient to 'allow' you to bleed. Don't worry too much about it, It's akin to having to warm up your car before the smooth ride!

Relax, the beginning of your cycle can be very different. It may take up to a year for your cycle to regulate itself. There are some very good books that you can check out of the library to help clear up some of the confusion. Now having said that; you should talk with your mom or another female relative who may have experienced the very same thing. Usually your cycle starts around the same age that your mom's did. Try the websites I listed below. Good luck little sister.

It's okay. calm down. you just started your period four months ago so you will be a little off schedule. It's completely normal for this to happen. Sometimes it takes a little over a year to be regular. I would let mom know just so she can comfort you and help you keep up with it for a the first year or so.

Your cycle will vary at your age hun, not to worry! It's normal for your period to come a little earlier than you'd expect or a little later, or not at all, or not as heavy, etc. It's called being a teenager and your body adjusting to all of the changes and hormones fluctuating. Don't worry!

Hey!

Not to worry, this is perfectly normal. I have had my period for over a year and I can go 4 months without one (which I kinda like).

It is not uncommon for your period to be irregular the first year of your cycle. It's nothing to worry about.

It's prefectly normal for it to be at odd times when you first get it. Mine were irregular for five years and eventually I went on birth control, just so I would know when I was going to get my period.
