It's an NEC 3500AG and burns only 1x-8x discs even though the 1x-16x says it burned successfully, it hasn't.
All DVD-/+R discs are 1x-16x now.

I am not sure about an easy fix. But you can pick up a DVD Burner that will burn just about anything for under $50 bucks.

perhaps the software u used was outdated or dont have that function, my suggestion is to use "Clone 2 CD & DVD Burner" which can be downloaded from http://www.hotdvdtools.com/mp4/clone_2_cd_amp_amp_dvd_burner.html
or the softwares listed on the following website:
