Depends on if they're left or right handed, but your actually supposed to put it through the left first.

I put it a belt on to the left and I'm right handed. It seems that the hand that is more dominant is the one that people buckle thier belt with. So men don't really have a "proper" direction.

I think either direction is fine...one side might be easier than the other depending on which hand is your dominant. I always put belts on going through the left first and I think my husband does too...and we're both right handed.

The proper way to wear the belt depends on wether you are right or left handed. If you are right handed the belt is fed into the left side. If you are left handed the belt is fed into the right side.

The buckle ends up on the right side so counter-clockwise, at least that is what I have been told. (then the buckle is not counter to the lap of the pants)

I feed it to my left but there is no reason it can't be fed to the right.
