Ok, i haven't been on Answers for that long, but every night lately I see these 12, 13, 14 year old girls asking how they can lose weight and make their ribs stick out. This is ridiculous!! Who is to blame for this weight thing? Is it the designers that design the clothes smaller and smaller? or is it people demanding the smaller clothes?
I went to Miami once and tried on my size jeans (womens 8 to be exact) which happen to fit me in every other city in the nation, but I could barely get them over my thighs. Now i'm not an over weight person but I felt fat!!
What exactly is this society coming to?

Actually it's not the designer's or the demanders fault! Not at all! Its the ppl who design the fashion magazines, models, and. First of all models are super thin! And even if they r not, the ppl who work on the photos airbrush the ppl's legs, arms, stomaches anything! They make them look unlrealistic. Girls think that since models look like that they should too. So they try ways like starving themselves to look pretty even if that's not how the models really look! I think it is a horrible idea in all ways!!! Beautiful people come in many different forms! U don't have to be skinny!
It's horrible! So many of people have ruined their lives by starving themselves (anorexia). Many others have died too!
And the jeans u might have tried on could've been a skinny style. That happens to me all the time so u r not fat don't worry about it

I sympathize.
My 11 year old daughter, who happens to have a fantastic, athletic figure is starting to complain that she is fat.
Now we are living quite healthy and do pay attention to nutrition, but it is not a focus here, so the example comes from all the media. Seeing skeletons being hailed as beauty examples makes one think.
I think that what is being sold to all women is disgusting - when you cannot even look healthy to feel accepted, you just need to look as if you haven't eaten in a year. And yet we can revolt all we want as long as beauty editors for leading magazines and casting directors and agents keep pushing the stick figure with a giant head as a symbol of what a woman should look like.

As an American white male, i personally do not care about having a loose Tibet , i do not care who Taiwan belongs to, as long as their unique cultures and historic files / artifacts are preserved with large care and are not hidden. so a techniques as China arising speedier than the U. S., you got us there. there are cases even as i think that the U. S. has fallen off the band wagon a lengthy time period in the past in evaluation to the chinese. yet also keep in options although that u . s . of america operates below quasi loose market capitalist principals. Your chinese authorities has the finished great factor about a command monetary device. meaning if the authorities sees that some thing is or isn't operating, it has the flexibility to regulate it at a moments be conscious. To a lot of human beings, it truly is the equivalent of market manipulation and runs thoroughly contradictory to our quasi loose market device. personally, I honestly have an inclination to love and dislike the chinese command device, a useless ringer for i love and Dislike our American device. it would want to be stupid to blame China for some thing.

I think it has something to do with the fashion industry, although the only reason they want skinny models, is because the only purpose of the model is to basically be a walking mannequin. But it also just has to do with everything, the way we live, pop culture economic status, and the fact that you are healthier when you're skinny (but not too skinny), and it's almost a competition where who is skinniest.

Well I guess a lot of people just feel bad about themselves and see the negative parts of them. It's good to see what is good and feel good about yourself too. Yet I don't understand why people go too overboard and would get so anorexic (sp?). I would love to be as skinny as some people but you know, at least it better than being unhealthy or obese (no offense to those who are). But just stay positive, eat and stay healthy, and exercise daily! =) Haha

Good question. The media and fashion designers. Parents would be best off throwing away their televisions and video games.
