I have a 5 and 1/2 yr old, and I want to know if she's gonna be passing any eggs or if she'll get interested in vegetation any time soon. She loves goldfish and will eat her formulated pellets like a sow, but she won't touch special treats, roundworms, or vegetation.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Most Red Eared Sliders begin breeding once they are 5 inches in length. It has been reported that size is more important than age for sexual maturity in this species. The mating rituals that occur between male and female Red Eared Sliders are interesting to watch. The males will first spend a long time trying to move the females into a position where they can face them. They then wiggle their long front claws in front of her. After some biting on the neck, the actual process of mating will take place. Females lay a number of clutches throughout the year and the hatchlings are fairly hardy, often times over-wintering, if they cannot leave the nest at the time of hatching. Proper incubation means carefully moving the eggs to a plastic container containing moist vermiculite. Don't rotate them, and keep them right-side up as you move them. Control the water content in the box by weighing it at the beginning and maintaining this weight throughout incubation. Clutches typically contain 12 to 15 eggs and will hatch in 50 to 62 days, if properly incubated at a temperature of 80 degrees Fahrenheit. House hatchlings in the same way you do adults but change their water daily.

How large is she? Female sliders don't start laying eggs until they're about six inches or more. Lone females may or may not lay unfertilized eggs. Some never lay, some lay once or twice a year every year after they reach maturity. Some lay them in the water and end up eating them, some might become egg-bound if not given a proper laying area.

As for the vegitation, try not feeding her for a few days before offering dark leafy greens. In the spring, see if you can get water hyacinth from a plant nursery. Most sliders LOVE it, even if they won't eat other greens. Romaine and red leaf lettuce seems to be a favorite of many turtles. Some also like thinly sliced sweet potato or carrots. Try some superworms or crickets every once in awhile as a treat.

hi I in simple terms have been given a yellow bellied turtle. they are exceptionally lots the comparable. this is what I did: I have been given all the stuff for the tank at Petco. they have specific basking lights for turtles there. i'm utilising a 10 gallon glass tank. customary water I have been given specific toddler turtle nutrition. At Petco, they grant you with a undeniable care sheet in simple terms for aquatic turtles, or you will desire to purchase a e book approximately them. My turtle nevertheless hasn't been eating. I certainly have tried the two, yet I prefer a separate tank for feeding simply by fact turtles are messy eaters and that way, the clear out can save up with the tank. in the adventure that your turtle won't consume in separate tank, feed interior the comparable tank. you will additionally want a clear out for the tank. this type, the water will stay clean and it would be risk-free for the turtle to stay in and drink. i wish you delight in you turtle! they are super animals!

It is about the age- we usually look for being over about 4" or so. Now it needs a male (assuming you are right about its sex- long foreclaws are males, short claws are female).

As for the diet, it is not too bad, and eating veggies is not a big deal. Try the articles at http://www.austinsturtlepage.com for ideas.
