Mendel's laws:(three laws)
1. Law of dominance
2.Law of segregation: During gamete formation "unit characters" (Mendel didn't know about chromosomes, although he suspected their presence) separated. During anaphase I ,homologous pairs separated. This can best be observed in the heterozygous condition.
3. Law of independent assortment: During gamete formation in a dihybrid, alleles found on non-homologous chromosomes separate, during anaphase I & II, independently of each other.
For example; after meiosis, a plant having the genotype TtGg
may produce four different kinds of gametes: TG,Tg,tG,tg.

Segregation of characteristics. Carried on discrete particles; genes.
Law of independent assortment. The separate assortment of different allele forms.
Crossing over was not know to Mendel and was found by one of Thomas Hunt Morgan's students, though the name escapes my memory.
