The fairly new OB starts to stall at top speed and most recenlty at 1/2 speed.. I changed the plugs & fuel line, added carb cleaner no luck. The water pump is working fine. I use it every weekend and use 89 octane gas with synthetic 2 cycle oil. Any thoughts?

sounds like the carb, as new as the motor is, may actually need to be rebuilt.

Yes the hindrance can very good be the therostat. If the thermaostat does no longer open up it is going to no longer allow water via. To investigate this take it out and warmness the backside of thermostat an see if it opens or simply take it out and run your motor without and spot in case you get water then. You will not do any harm engine jogging with out it. Be licensed mechanic for six years.

if it dies out slowly, check the vent on your fuel tank cap. might even try a different tank. they can have problems. next time it does this, pull the cowl off and feel the port side of the block...if it's so hot you can't leave your hand on it for 10 seconds, she's running hot. that motor has a history of ruining cylinders due to the nickel-silicon coating instead of a steel sleeve. do a compression check.

Sounds like the power pac....this is the electronic spark control unit.
Does it die smoothly or cut in and out abruptly?
Does adding choke rectify it? (if it's a power pac problem the choke will have no effect)
