I like both and I don't really have a problem with AFI broadening their musical tastes and trying new things. Although I do miss just those straight-up hardcore punk that the old AFI used to make.
But I have to say, the new songs are pretty well-done, especially with Sing The Sorrow, where they were able to create this strange atmosphere in the songs, whenever you listen to the album.
Though they do lack alot of attitude, pace and I just hate it when people who know nothing about AFI lump them with the whole "em*" scene. Which is as horrible as it is amusing.
My pick goes to the "middle" AFI. Fast hardcore punk mixed with darkness. Black Sails all the way!

ummmm... both, but I am a more of a Fall Out Boy person, but the new AFI sounds better then the old AFI

Old. They were original and rocked hard now they are like every other rock band. They really suck now. Miss Murder was the worst! Evanescence is also starting to suck. I don't like their open door album.
