The US english in based on a phonetic alphabet, making spelling, and prounounciation different... pronounciation is regional as in the UK, pronounciation on well spoken english can be very similiar, either side of the content,
There was an article recently, in the independant newspaper in the UK, decrying British speaking the worse english. There are studies that suggest the southern americans speak a closer dialect to the queens english than anywhere in the world.
In accent and pronounciation, listen, it sounds mostly the same the queen and those below the maxon dixon line....
The main point, it is the same language and mainly regional, the US has mainly simplified spelling and some very minor pronounciatian.
Which enlish do I speak UK or US,,,,,, Both as I am a mixed culture....

In short..the accent.
Few of the wrods are a bit different also..for example:
America: color, train/subway, carriage, dinner. British: colour, tube, plastic bag, tea time.
