My hermit crab won't eat! we got him about6 1/2 -7 hours ago. we are giving him little pellets. What does it look like when hermit crabs go to the bathroom? My hermit crabs cage is boring what can i put in or on the outside of it that's cool that i don't have to make? Tips on letting a hermit crab live a heathy life. I have a heating light for my crab is that OK? How do you know when a crab is sick? What is a daily misting and how do you do it? Should i put cloth in the cage for comfort. Should i turn his light off at night? Tell me EVERYTHING you know about HERMIT CRABS. I've never had one before so that's why i'm asking so many questions. Please tell me in the next 30-60 minutes.

First off, you need to crush up his food. Only the very largest crabs can eat the pellets, and that is because they crush the pellets up on their own.

Allow your crab to get acclimated. Any change in environment can be stressful. Dont handle him too much until he becomes more active.

Inside his cage you need to have a water bowl, food bowl, something for him to hide under, and preferably something to climb on. You can get cute food and water bowls to make it more entertaining for you. Same with the climbing and hiding parts.

A heating lamb is okay, but a heating pad is better because hermit crabs are nocturnal. night time is when they are the most active, and they LOVE the dark.

A crab is sick if it starts to drop its limbs. If its only dropping them slowy, isolate it from other crabs and make it as comfortable as possible. If it drops more than two limbs in an hour, it will likely die. Keep it as comfortable as possible as you try to save it! Just because your crab is dropping limbs, you sholdnt think that it is doomed! Hermit crabs can grow their limbs back when they molt.

My immediate suggestions: leave it alone, give it something to hide under, keep it warm, keep it humid in its tank, and keep it dark.

GOOD LUCK

wow. well it may not look lie he's eating but he probably is hermit crabs take small nibbles. they go to the bathroom at nite probably. shells, rocks. get hermit crab salt or it will die. not regular table salt but hermit crab salt give it a tiny bit of water in like a lid. ya thas ok. it won't move alot. get a spray bottle spray lightly in the cage. u can but u don't have to. probably seeing as they r nocturnal and light would make them sleep. um hermit crabs are rather easy to take care of. if u want to know more check out care sites and go to your local library and check out books. u cant put egg shells in there water for nutrients hope that helps i wish your hermits crab a long life (they can live 15 years) ^-^ also get a slightly bigger selection of shells so he can grow

hi there
hermit crabs are ok on pellets but they do better on natural foods so try some fresh foods just a little change it everyday... they love peanut butter as well we don't use pellets ..we use mix veggies roman lettuce peelings from supper etc.. they are scavenger's so they will eat just about anything..they eat and move usually at night ...for the furniture you can use a piece of wood they love to climb, rocks, coral rocks, you can use just about anything or buy hermit crab furniture fro a pet store... my daughter's hermit tank has statue ,a log,a cave ,,different types of shells... just make sure it's not too crowded they still need to be able to dig down in the sand to molt at lease 2-3 inches of moist sand...

Jebus Crisp! Didn't you get a book with him?

Here, go to this site...they seem to have all the info you could possibly want. And calm down. They are nocturnal and don't eat that much. Leeeetle tummies.

Did you get him some of those painted shells that he can move into when he grows? Get some fish tank plants, those should liven things up a bit for YOU, but I don't think they care much...I don't know about the heat lamp.
