2x +4y = 12

x = 4y-6

So we use the second equation in the first:

2(4y-6) + 4y = 12

8y -12 +4y = 12

12y = 24

y = 2

x = 4y-6

x = 4(2) -6

x = 2

Since the second equation is already solved for x, just substitute that value in the first equation:
2x + 4y = 12
2(4y - 6) + 4y = 12
8y - 12 + 4y = 12
12y = 24
y = 2

Now replace y with 2 in the 2nd equation to find x.
