I was diagonosed with endometriosis today, and my obgyn wants me to try birth control without taking the sugar pills for three months to keep the insurance company off our backs and then schedule me a hysterectomy. My question is shouldn't I go ahead and schedule it so the insurance can't call it a pre-existing condition? I have had the insurance for well over a year. (United Health Care Pro Choice) Anybody have a clue about this kind of stuff??? Thanks a lot.

I have had severe pain for the past 6 months and I am 22 years old and type I diabetic also... I have a 16 month old baby whom was a miracle because of the severity of my pregnancy and diabetes...a very complicated pregnancy. My husband has 2 other children as well.... So even if I dont go with the hysterectomy I still cannot have children...way too risky for me personally.

I too have to go through a "wait and watch" period. I was just diagnosed with adenomyosis, some what like endometriosis, but remains inside the uterine muscles. But my Dr recommends surgery because of my family history and because I had C-sections with my last two pregnancies. My periods are extremely excruciating, and they just get worse and longer as time goes by. I wish you the best of luck with your insurance. Mine already is giving us a hard time too. I hope you feel much better, and I have to agree with Canada, they DO have better health care, and better caring Dr's up there!!!

First, a hysterectomy is VERY radical when it comes to surgery. Have you had another opinion? Is there a possibility that you may want children and what is your age? (Not being nosy) Those are some of the questions your gyny should have asked. Endometriosis without symptoms, or with mild symptoms, usually does not require medical treatment. Your doctor may choose to follow you with frequent examinations.

When necessary, treatment may vary depending on whether you are being treated for pain or infertility secondary to the endometriosis. For more severe cases of endometriosis, scar tissue may be removed during laparoscopy. This appears to improve pain symptoms and may increase the chances of pregnancy. Alternatively, a hysterectomy to remove the ovaries and uterus can be performed. Most women with endometriosis can have children. If you have endometriosis, your chances for getting pregnant will depend on how severe your condition is and how well it responds to treatment. Usually a period of observation without treatment is advised before proceeding to surgical treatments. Good Luck!

I also have endometriosis, and my mother just had a hysterctomy for it. The birth contol might not even be for insurance purposes, but to control the excess bleeding/cramps you might be having. I dont really know anything about the american health insurance plans...canada is way different.
