The first to do is to talk to your parents or relatives about this. The reason I suggest this because of what may occur from this situation, and it is smart to let your family know of your desire. They may be able give you some suggests that may help as well.
Only you know more about your boy friend, does he have bad temper, is he violence at times, does he physically or/and mentally abuse you?
If you want to end the relationship, it is best to tell him where there are people at a safe distance. No matter what you say to him his feeling is going to get hurt.
If you feel you are not comfortable in comforting him, buy a small gift and leave it at his home when he is not there. Enclose a note of your plans to end the relationship, and tell him the reason why in your note. You could tell him that you have the desire for other woman or want be to nun, but honesty is what he should be given. Most of all pray to God.

Sorry Bre, but that's not going to happen. If your friend really cares about you than it will hurt his feelings when you do it. The best thing to do then is to just do it. The longer this lingers, the more tense it will become for both of you. So if you really care about him and you are sure that you want to break up, than do it now. It sounds like you do care about him so I'm sure you will be able to do this in a kind way. Good Luck!

Honesty is always best. Just tell him you want to date others or just are not ready for a serious long term commitment. It will hurt a little but not as bad as staying involved with someone out of pity.

Be honest, and specific. Why do you want to break up with your friend?
Don't use lines like "it's not you, it's me" or "you deserve better" or "let's take a break"
Its good you care for him and don't want to hurt your friend's feelings, so kudos to you for that :)

Breaking up is hard to do and it just can't be done without hurting feelings. Do it gently, firmly, quickly and as kindly as you can.

"Friend" or "boyfriend"?
Either way, if he is close to you, there's no way around hurting him. Just be honest and gentle.
