If it's Sims 1, then you can practically get it for free online. I just bought the complete Sims collection, which includes all 7 expansion packs, for just 34 bucks on amazon. They used to be about 60-80 bucks for each expansion pack. Now that sims 2 is out, sims 1 is just very cheap.

Yeah Download the game using a shareware program like Limewire. Get Limewire at- http://www.download.com/LimeWire/3000-2166_4-10552048.html?tag=pop
It is safe enough I have been using it for a long time and never got a serious virus. Just make sure when you are using it have a good virus protection program like Norton, Avg, etc... and get windows defender from www.microsoft.com.
