Right now i'm in a community college. I was wondering what major I would go into to become a Jr. High/High School Government or History teacher. Would I go into Secondary Education, History, or Political Science major?

It would be Secondary Education. I would check out the colleges I was planning to transfer to and get a copy of their curriculum. If you can figure that out and do that, you can make sure each of your classes for sure transfer while you are taking them. Sometimes that is an issue. When you transfer, your advisor will instruct you on what to take for your specialty in Secondary Education. You'll have to be admitted to the Education program also. Hope it helps!

In Canada you would need to do a four-year degree in History followed by a two-year degree in Secondary Education.

History is a good BA degree and a bad MA/PhD degree. Odd isn’t it? Industy needs people with BAs in history but no grad degrees in history-they are too specialized by then.

A glut of History MAs and PhDs, too few desired positions, and a faculty invested in the status quo point to a need for change.
Many History MAs and PhDs want to know why the number of PhDs and the focus of their education are out of balance with job prospects and career expectations.

Between 1983 and 2003, the number of doctorates earned annually in the History tripled.
The percentage of History MAs and PhDs finding jobs continues to shrink.

In TX, you would need to major in Government or History, then get certified to teach. You can be getting both done pretty much at the same time, but you will major in the subject you will teach.
