Okay I'm sure I know the stuff for the Geometry test tommorow but my teacher is so LAME (really) she wont allow us to use calculators! So I need to know whats the easy way to figure out these pretty basic problems

-7 + 8 =
-7 - 9 =

You know the whole negative times a negative
positive plus a positive (well thats easy at least.)
negative times postive

Can you tell me the rules like a neg and a neg will always equal pos right? Give an example or 2 it would be really helpful

5 stars guarenteed tommorow I need this info ASAP. So please hurry! (Thank you)

when adding two negatives just add them like normal except put a negative in from of the answer.

-1 + -1 = -2

when adding a negative and a positive it is like subtracting

2 + -1 = 1

when subtracting two negatives just switch the subtraction and negative sings to positive and addition

-5 - -10 is the same as -5 +10 = 5

when subtracting a negative and a positive switch the signs (like above) and it is like adding

10 - -5 is the same as 10 + 5 = 15

when multiplying two negatives the answer becomes positive

-5 * -5 = 25

when multiplying a negative and a positive the answer becomes negative

-5 * 5 = -25

when dividing two negatives the answer is positive

-15 / -15 = 1

when the numerator is positive and the denominator is negative then the answer is negative and vice versa

20 / -10 = -2 and -20 / 10 = -2

With something like -7 + 8 = ? Just swap the numbers around like this 8 - 7 = 1 and it makes it a lot easier to see how it works. Because for sums, it doesn't matter which order the numbers are in. But if there is multiplication involved do NOT swap the numbers around.

Two negative signs together like this [-1 - (-9) = -1 + 9 = 8 ] means that it changes into a positive sign.

And when you have something like -7 - 9 then you know the answer will also be negative. Just add 7 and 9 as you would normally if it weren't negative and then add the negative sign to the front after you've figured it out. Because 7 + 9 is the same as -7 - 9 except the latter is a negative answer.

-7+8: turn it around and you get 8 -7 = 1

a neg and a neg equals pos in multiplication and dividing.

however, a neg+neg = a neg.

7 + 9= 16 therefore -7 -9= -16

also, neg-neg(such as -7-(-7)) equals neg plus pos.

so, -7 - (-7)= -7+7 =0

hope it helped!

A NEGETIVE TIMES A NEGITIVE IS A POSITIVE SO-4(X)-5 =+20

A NEGITIVE TIMES A POSITIVE IS A POSITIVE SO-5(X)+10=-50

A POSITIVE TIMES A POSITIVE IS A POSITIVE SO 8(X)8 = 64
