what's the actual purpose of using shaving cream? Does it do anything, or is it just something help you keep track of where you've already shaved?

I have been using soap for a last two day and I need to go buy some shaving cream. Shaving cream allows you to cut closer to the skin and also acts as a lubricant of sorts to make the blade glide smoother across the face. Try to shave without it.

As you get older your beard becomes heavier. The heavier your beard is, the harder it is to shave without shaving cream.

It's just for keeping track. Try shaving for a week or two without it (and with cold water).
