Why not ask for the facts about the death penalty first. Here are just a few-

The death penalty is not a deterrent. Homicide rates are higher in states that have the death than in states which do not have it. Most people who commit murder do not think they will be caught (if they think at all.)

The death penalty system costs much more than a system that does not have the death penalty. Much of these extra costs come way before the appeals begin. This money ought to be spent on crime prevention methods of proven value- including more and better trained police, and more sophisticated police methods and for victims services which are always underfunded.

Over 120 people on death rows have been released with evidence of their innocence. In the majority of these cases, the evidence was not DNA, which is not often available. More often, the problem is one of mistaken eyewitnesses. After an execution, the case is closed. If the wrong person was executed the real killer is still out there.

The death penalty is racially biased, but not in the way you may think. A defendent is twice as likely to face the death penalty if the victim was white than if the victim was non white.

More and more states have life without parole on the books. It means what it says and is no picnic to be locked up for 23 of 24 hours a day, with no hope of anything else.

The death penalty can be very hard on the families of murder victims. As the process goes on they are forced to relive their ordeal in the courts and in the media. Life without parole is sure and swift and rarely appealed.

Shouldn't we apply common sense based on the facts instead of revenge? Using our heads does not mean we excuse brutal or depraved acts.

I think a lot of crimes of worthy of death , for instance murder, treason, a lot of sexual based crimes, and etc. I seen some of the answers of people who responded to this question that are not in favor of the death penalty in any case, instead they are interested in trying to rehabilitate everyone, no matter what they have done. The primary reason for laws is to protect the innocent, and to punish the guilty.
Sentences are imposed on people who have been found guilty as a means of punishment and so justice will be done. The primary reason is not so people will be rehabilitated, but punished.

I dont think the death penalty should be used ever. It just opens a huge pandoras box when you allow it. Education and Understanding is key in bringing criminals back to reality I dont think people should spend the rest of there lifes in jail for any offence. I think we really need to find a better way to deal with crime then just locking people up or killing them in the name of justice. Jail should also be a second chance imo not the punishment for the last chance or no chance. Alot of these criminals are just victums of there own enviroment and we would be best to understand why they are becoming criminals in the first place. The best way to find out is to ask them and try to resolve the issues they have at the same time you'll learn how to pervent the same thing from happening again... Death penalty is for countrys that live in the stone age not an industralized super power with educated citizens...

I don't believe in having ANYONE put to sleep. Even if there is forensic evidence, you don't know. Anyone in the world could have done it. If you put someone to sleep, it is stopping a beating heart. Even cold hearted killers don't deserve to die. Chances are, they want to die, being in jail is torture for them.
It is still murder if you put someone to death, and you are no better then them.

I believe that the death penalty should never be used. It's really not a deterrent nor is it civilized.
