“As far as public opinion, the president will not shape policy according to public opinion,” - Tony Snow

New York Times, 'Fissures Grow on Eve of Bush Speech on Iraq' Jan 9, 2007. Written by David Stout.

Does this mean that President Bush will not lead the country as the people want? Isn't this the basis of representative democracy, that the president leads the country how the people see fit, working with them or convincing them when they disagree?

Or is it something that I am not understanding about government?

Or did Tony Snow make a boo-boo?

Jeez, even Tony Snow doesn't know what he means most of the time. Remember, he used to work for Fox and that should tell you something right there. That appears to be one time he accidentally told the truth - Bush doesn't give a crap what the American people think - its what he and Cheney want.

That statement is just further proof that Bush lives in his own little world, and its one of the biggest reasons behind his failed Presidency.

nice spin, but he has the duty to defend the united states first(oath of office),I think the NY times misinterpreted his statement, but then again they're not really that reliable a news source anyway
