34 yrs. old, successful in sales, do not hold BA, working towards it. If I get an offer for a GREAT company in sales (salary approx. $80-150,000 per year depending on territory) . . .should I pursue my life long goal/dream of getting BA, or go for the job??? (I will be using my degree to get this sort of job in hopes to move into management, cannot go into management w/out degree) . . .just want other's perspectives. Thx.

My philosophy is this....an Education is something that can NEVER be taken from you. A job on the other hand, can at a moments notice.

If it's always been your dream to to get your BA, then continue to pursue it. I was on the 10 year plan in college and always dreamed of going to law school (not to be a lawyer--just to go) and I'm 35 and wish'd I'd kept going. Kills me every time I think about it. Follow your dream first because although school may not seem so important now....20 years from now you may be kicking yourself, whether you get this job now or not.

As for the job......they come and go but I do understand great opportunitites. With technology being what it is, you can take classes online and still do the job!!!

Continue working towards your degree and take the job. Even if you have to drop your class load down to one or two classes don't give up your dream. You can always look at a school with weekend classes or on-line if you have to accommodate a work schedule. You never know how things will work out with this new employer and you don't want to put all the eggs in one basket. That kind of income would be nice but keep some kind of a back up plan going for you as well. The degree will help to move your career along down the road. Most companies would want you to continue your education, talk it over with them after you get the job and see what can be worked out.

Good Luck!

I mean, honestly, My first instinct is to finish your degree, but if you get an offer for 100,000, then just take the job, see if you love it, and if you do, then that is all that matters. You can always go back for your degree. On the other hand, if this job for some reason didn't work out, then the degree would be nice to fall back on. I say, if you need the money, take the job though.

Even if you get this job, you should still try to finish your degree program. As you said, you will need it in future to move into management position. An education is never lost. Keep it up and do what your instinct tells you.

Go for the degree. It will probably make you more likely to get the job you want. Could you do both?

take the job and finish your degree part time...even check to see if your employer will help pay for you to finish your degree...

it's free to ask...but you know that, you're in sales...
