Assuming you are using Windows, open Paint (Start > Programs > Accessories > Paint), paste the file from the clipboard (the one you just copied from Word), then select from the menu File > Save As, select a location, enter a filename, and select "Save as type:" option JPEG. You can do the same with other photo editing software, but this is easiest for beginners and included in Windows for free.

Not sure if it works in word... but select the image in word, then go to file -- save as. There may be a way to save only the image and there should be a way to change the "filetype" to .jpg.
Good luck.

You need to cut or copy the image from Word, then paste that image into a graphics program like Photoshop or Paintshop or something like that (lots of shareware, freeware at download.com)
After you paste the image into the program, use the programs "save as" feature to save it to the format that you wish.
