This is what I did. I made my reservation. I then kept hawkeye-ing the hotel website and everytime that rate dropped, I called and asked for the lower rates. I have found the rates are lower at hotels the beginning of the week and rise as the week progresses. They are based on whats available. If they have lots of rooms the rates are cheaper. Initially you should make your reservation at the hotel website too. I did this at the Tropicana and I when I started out my room rate was 79.95 a night, by the time I went to Vegas, I had it down to 49.95 and an upgraded room. Just by watching. I recommend the hotel websites directly as opposed to the travel sites and brokers.

I have stayed at the Monte Carlo several times and I consider it a good hotel and it has good prices. You need to look at that hotle's web site at the rate calendar. All of the hotels have a rate calendar online at their web sites and it will show the rates for each day.
Now it may be that the time you have picked does not have the best rate at that hotel. So if you can go when the rate is better do that. Or, look at the rate calendars for other hotels and see if they have low rates when you plan to be there. Rates will always be higher by about $40 to $60 on weekends so if your dates are a weekend you will pay more, Lower rates are Sunday through Thursday nights.

Forget the travel agents......Go to the hotel web sites, get their phone numbers, and phone them direct. You get a better deal, than booking on-line. The first time you go there, sign up for Club Cards, at all the major resorts. They will send you E-mails advising you of specials etc. Keep in mind that the resorts will try almost anything to get you to stay in their hotel. Their reasoning is that if you stay there, you will gamble there....and that's how they make their money...not on the hotel room.

The best way I know of to get a deal is to buy a package deal. Airfare, hotel, car. Try Travelzoo, they show a LOT of deals for Vegas. Also, be relentless in searching for deals. Sometimes its just a matter of doing a lot of looking.
