i hope you mean the american civil war.

well, contrary to the way the history books make it sound, the issue was never slavery. it was economics.

Lincoln did not emancipate the slaves until AFTER the war started, and then ONLY in the seccessionist states, he did not even think it was a good idea, but was pressured to do so. he did not want the war and could have avoided it but others would not listen to reason, and the ware ensued.

that is not ten things, but it should get you started digging for the truth of the matter

During the Civil War, when people were hoarding coins for their metallic value or melting them down to make ammunition, the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing started issuing postage-stamp-size “fractional currency” in 3-, 5-, 10-, 25-, and 50-cent denominations. The practice ended in 1876.

First and foremost: the shear carnage of it is mind-boggling. Antietam, Manasseh, Cold Harbor, Gettysburg, all had over 20,000 casualties and there were many many more battles equally brutal, by contrast, we've had 3,000 in 5 years in Iraq. And more died from disease and in the ghastly places they called hospitals than on the battlefields. One of the most fascinating bu untaught aspects of the Civil War is that in many ways it was the worlds first 20th century war. First use of rifled bullets, first use of repeating firearms, first use of revolving turret, first use of iron clad ships, first use of submarine. first use of machine gun(the Gatling), first use of modern trench warfare, mechanized deployment, aireal reconnaissance, photo-journalism etc.etc.etc. All this new technology and they were still using European battle tactics from the Revolutionary War Era. It's no wonder so many died.
