Good question. Since I am much older, I can tell you this,t.v, didn't stay on all night. The National Anthem ended the last program about 11:30 (after the news) and no t.v. until the news at 5:00 or 6:00 the next morning. TV was popular with Dragnet, THe ALan Young Show, You Bet your LIfe, Big Town, Mama, the Colgate Comedy Hour, Red Buttons Show, Amos and Andy, What's My Line, Martin Kane, Private Eye, The Jack Benny Show, Ford Theatre, The Roy Rogers Show, Your Hit Parade, Hopalong Cassidy, The Long Ranger, American Bandstand, I Love Lusy and many more. My favorite cartoon was Bugs Bunny, Clutch Cargo, Top Cat, Flintstones. The most popular song was "Anytime 'by Eddie Fisher. Patti Page was a popular female artist with "I Went to Your Wedding. A Gallon of mile was only .96 and a loaf of bread .16 You could buy a home for $17,000 and the average income was about $3,500 per year! New car? How about 1,900? Eggs? .72 Those were the days my friend...I thought they'd never end. ....lpopular toys - Pez (dispenser that allowed you to pop the head and put candy inside the container). Matchbox cars were the craze. My doll? An imitation Barbee named Tammy - she was bigger and had more of a shape. mr. Potato Head was born then and we had fun putting the pieces of the eyes, ears, etc. First toy that was advertised on t.v. At the movies - "The Greatest Show on Earth. Cecil B. Demille was the popular director and producer. Yes, those were the days....

I'm 26 and we didn't get cable until my late teens. My grandma had cable though so we would watch stuff at her house. She was a SERIOUS Christian so we had to wait until she went to bed to watch BET, MTV, and VH1. And we all had to crowd around the TV because we couldn't turn the volume up or else she would hear it. LOL! The good 'ole days.

A hard to remember experience: I grew up with Romanian Television (it was in the seventies-eighties, before Revolution), the only TV station available in Romania, on air between 20.00-22.00, and all that I remember was president Ceausescu speaking at Communist Party Congress and visiting factories...

I was spoiled rotten and did have cable, all channels. Once I turned 13 my tv never left MTV. I mean NEVER, but then again that is when they actually showed music videos.
