Virii is a game tailored for .NET programmers at all levels. It is a great starting point for entry level programmers, as well as a very entertaining game for more experienced programmers.

Some people maintain that "virii" is the correct plural of the word "viruses". They are wrong, though.

Their reasoning is based on the fact that "virus" is a Latin word and in Latin the plural of the nouns ending in "-us" is constructed by replacing the "-us" suffix with an "-i" suffix. For instance, the plural of "radius" (another Latin word) is "radii".

However, in reality the Latin word "virus" is a generic word for "poison" and has no plural - somewhat similar to the word "air" in English. Therefore, "virii" is most definitely *not* the correct Latin plural of "virus". The alternative, then, is not to treat it as a Latin word but as an English one and construct the plural as it is done with English nouns - i.e., by adding an "-s" or "-es" suffix. Since the singular ends with an "s", we must use the "-es" suffix.

In addition, the people associated with the "dark side" of the computer virus problem (i.e., those who make and distribute viruses) often adopt the "virii" plural - precisely because they know that it is incorrect but want to "seem different from the normal people" - i.e., for them it is an act of rebelion.

There really is no such word as "virii". People use it incorrectly (especially on the internet) as the plural for "virus", however, the correct plural form of "virus" is "viruses".

It's a plural form of virus.

"Viruses" is in common use but old-school English teachers will still cringe when you use it.

Some will argue this point but I was taught viri or virii in school decades ago - and got dinged for using "viruses".
