Psychology: Ego development requires autonomy. Without freedom, the ego does not potentiate.
Philosophy: Meaning is an individual perception. Without freedom of individual thought and perception, there is no meaning.
Anthropology: Diversification of the human experiment is necessary for the survival of the species. Without individual freedom, all would hinge on a single, possibly flawed and doomed experiment.

What motivates a human being to want freedom? imprisonment. If a human is imprisoned long enough they want to get out. That goes for the mind as well as the body, if their mind is keeping them a prisoner many want to escape that imprisonment. It depends on what you mean by freedom. For some, it means complete independence while for others it means almost complete dependence. In the latter case, the freedom sought would be from fear or responsibility, etc. The driving force in any case is the specific psychological need of the individual.
