We just put a bid on a home and wondered if there is a way to find out what the homeowners paid when they bought it.

You should go to your local county clerk's office; they will have a records department that will have all prior deeds on the property you are interested in; just supply the address or tax map #.

Yes, it's public knowledge and depends on where you live where you go but start with the city or county records office. You can also contact the appraisal district for the value of your house and houses around you. It won't be what they paid, but will give you some idea of how your house stands up to others in the area.

Where I live that is public information. Check the country tax records.

Most state tax records are online (I know Maryland is) It will show the last sale price and assesed value
