If you ever fully trust your government you might as well call them God because you basicaly just gave them the Go to do anything they want. I dont think anyone should ever trust there government at all. Government was ment as a last resort for things people couldnt afford to do on there own not a first pick. The checks and ballances of america are hugely played by the roll of its citizens and there involvement in there lifes and this includes living in the real world and watching your Gov and trying to reduce the Secrets to a min...

Youth brings about idealization. Age tells you that every government on the face of the earth lies to it's people. You learn that not all issues can be public. You learn that your government wherever you live is a reflection of waht people within that nation are willing to accept and not accept from government leaders.
Wouldn't it be nice if each leader voted into office actually did waht they said, but sadly I know of no government on earth where that happens.
Trust, you never should absolultely trust your governemnt, that's when you begin to slide into a communistic state of being. Example, Hitler didn't become a mass murderer over night. This fellow country men and women begin with allowing negatives he was implimenting to go on, because it didn't affect them personallly, by the time it personally affected them it was too late to control him. They over looked choices he made on there behalf, until for many even though they no longer agreed with what he was doing as their leader, they were trapped under his rule.
So you always want to question your government and seek to make positive changes where and through waht positive means there are available to you.
That is what a free government is based upon; the rights of the people to bring about changes when they disagree with what their leaders are doing.

Sad to say, we have no choice. Everyone knows the government lies to us, what's puzzling nevertheless is how much? The government of course is made up folks like you and I so lies will be uttered during the course of interaction with the citizens. Is it right? No, yet it's impossible to have a paradise on earth. We just hope our government is the least evil of all other governments in the world.Which I think it is.

Well, we certainly cannot trust the current government...among the one who have gotten caught lying so far: President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Scooter Libby, Carl Rove, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell (though he clearly didn't like doing it and is a good guy), John Ashcroft, Brownie, and all their spokespeople. Now, Clinton did indeed lie as well...the difference is that he lied about a personal sexual indiscretion while these guys lied (and continue to lie) about reasons to enter into a war that has resulted in the deaths of over 3000 Americans, secret wiretaps, torture of prisoners, the access of a convicted felonious lobbyist, the writing of a national energy policy by oil company officials who would profit from it financially, and billions of dollars in no-bid contracts to their friends...just to name a few. You tell me what is worse?

Of course.
The lies that are valid lies and the lies which are verifiable and not just someones opinion are invariably exposed.
Ask Bill Clinton, or Richard Nixon, or Col. North, or the host of politicians who have been exposed in just the last year.
Capital Hill is under a 24/7 microscope - independent watch dog groups, main stream reporters, authors, the media, the opposing parties, freelance reporters and so on.

You should never fully trust a government at all. Reagan had it right when he said, "Trust (but verify)."
On the other hand, you can never trust at all a person who claims without basis that someone else is a liar. Be careful what you ask for...

It's very difficult, isn't it. I'm especially appalled by the Federal Government's EPA under the current administration that mislead the people of the City of New York by telling them that it was safe to return to work (and school--and live in!) Lower Manhattan post 9/11. Pathetic, isn't it.

Get used to the idea that every gov. lies to you. The only thing that makes the difference is that sometimes people know about it, and some other times they do not.

I cant think of any reason to.....and as long politicians run the government we would probably be better served to investigate for ourselves instead of relying on what they tell us.
