This happens alot!
It happens more when I am signed on with messenger, but its not just that because I have signed out to see if that was it...and the freezing does slow down. But the fact remains is that it is still doing it!!
I have ran defrag, disk clean-up, my anti-virus and my spyware & still no luck :(
Does anyone know of anything else??

Right-click on the taskbar & select Task Manager & monitor the processes you have running & see how much memory is being used & how much of the CPU is being used. Sounds like you need more memory, but you could free some up by canceling programs that are running that you're not using.

It is always better to depend on system restore so that un- identified errors are undone with out affecting the basic operating system. I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html.
The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

one thing that you can do that MIGHT help is at startup press f8 and conduct a hard drive test. This will fix any problems that are in the hardware. This may or may not help.

My pc did this awhile back and it was my memory stick that was bad.

Check the BIOS settings

try pressing control, then alt, then delete on your keaboard all at once then a box will pop up...in the box there are things running click on one of them then click end task ...do this for all of them....if your computer is still going slow then perss control, then alt, then delete and then when the box pops up , click "processes" at the top of the box... then it should give you a whole list ...click 'user name' and it will group up the list... delete everything that isnt under "system" or "local service" also dont delete "explorer.exe" and "taskmgr.exe"...i hope this helps ...by doing this you are closing all unnecessary programs that might be slowing your computer down. i hope i helped you this helped me run the sims 2 and messenger a lot faster

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
