If you have a strat., where was it made? Mexico, Korea? I'm sure if it was made in the US it was much more than 150.00. Depending on the neck etc.. You could add some better pickups and change the pots..I have an older mexican strat I use for slide guitar.. Sounds excellent.. Save up and get a better guitar than 400.00 You might find an Epiphone Les Paul.. but I'm not sure what they sell for or the going price on Musicians Friend. My guitars range in the 1k and up.(not my strat). Just get some better pickups and pots.. That guitar would sound great..

Sometimes all a guitar needs is a good tune up, but if you're looking for a new one, the cheapest are at Target (believe it or not). I would go with a used guitar if you're looking for a cheap one, check the listings in your local paper.

Ebay. They have a huge selection and their prices are unbeatable.

musiciansfriend.com is the best bet. you can narrow down searches by brand and price.
