My baby is 6 weeks old and I am breastfeeding. My husband and I introduced the bottle when she was 4 weeks old. She initially took the bottle very well and then then this past week began to refuse the bottle altogether. We have been attempting to give her a bottle for the past 5 days with no success. She cries and cries until I finally nurse her from my breast. We have even tried extending her time of feeding to ensure that she was hungry. We have also tried a variety of bottles; gerber, Dr. brown and Avent. Nothing is working. She has to take the bottle for when she goes to daycare or if I just want to get out. I even tried putting something sweet on the bottle nipple (gas med.) and this didn't even work. Any suggestions would be a BIG help. We are really frustrated and worried. HELP!!!!!!!!

Don't use honey! It causes botulisim!

Try not being around. It might be bacause YOU are there (and she knows it!) My oldest would take a paci in the church nursery, but the minute I walked in, he'd spit it out! LOL

I had (have) the same problem with my three month old. I did exactly the same things you're doing, and she never took the bottle. I went back to work when she was nine weeks old (after trying for WEEKS). I worked for two weeks, thinking that eventually she would get hungry enough to take the bottle. She never did. I stopped working, and I am on medical leave (her pediatrician wrote a note saying she refused to eat). To this day, she screams when she is given a bottle. I tried every bottle/nipple I could find, many different people tried to give her the bottle (including my sister who's a lactation consultant) with no success. I have not been able to leave her unless she has just been fed. This is my third child, and I had no problems with the other two. I finally decided that she is just not going to take the bottle. I wrote this to let you know that you are not alone, not to discourage you. Keep trying (I am), and I hope things work out for you.

Hi. Try Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottle. It worked for my friends baby perfectly. Also try to change the formula. The baby just might not like the taste of it. Been trying to give my baby a bottle but no luck for me as well. She's 10 months now. The earlier you try to give your baby the bottle, the more chance that you might succeed. I didn't try till mines 6 months so Im really stuck now. Good luck.

i had this same problem with my daughter when she was young. she refused to ever take a bottle from me! try leaving and going for a ride and leave your husband with the hungry baby and the bottle. i swear, they know when their mothers are there and it makes them mad! it might take a few weeks to get her on the bottle. my husband sweared that it was easier to feed her formula then breast milk. for some reason my daughter got confused drinking breast milk from a bottle. when she gets really hungry she will eventually give in and drink a few ounces. but it is a long hard road and you have to hang in there! there is no magic solution.
just keep trying.

DO NOT GIVE A CHILD UNDER ONE HONEY!
IT HAS SPORES THAT ARE DANGEROUS TO THEIR IMMUNE SYSTEMS AND CAN CAUSE BOTULISM!!!

i have got here upon Pampers Swaddlers to be the suitable "newborn" diaper. once my little ones were given to length 2 diapers we went to the Pampers toddler Dry diapers. We tried both Huggies and Luvs, both were undesirable and leaked plenty for our youthful ones. i might want to also pretty advise the Pampers gentle wipes. The Platex Nurser bottles were my son's renowned. My daughter is breast fed. The formula we used for my son become Enfamil Lipil and we made our own toddler food yet each so often we offered the Gerber toddler food.

have you tried different types of nipples and materials of the nipples my son would only use the playtex nursers nipples that looked like a breast nipple.

P.S. in regards to the last post honey is not good for children under the age of two, it is not pasturized and they cant get ill from it

Try preemie sized nipples. They are smaller and it may be easier for her to "latch" on to the smaller bottle nipples.
