If you wait for the inspiration for your thesis then just forget it you won't be able to complete it. If I wait for the inspiration my family will starve.

I don't know what class it is for, so it is hard to answer, but here are some tips:

Your thesis is a kind of argument, so don't just summarize what your are writing about. "assume your reader knows nothing about your subject" is fine for book reports, but fatal for critical writing. Think of the difference between these two papers: A review of the highlights of the vietnam war and a paper detailing why America got involved in the conflict.

A thesis should be sheding light on a subject that the reader is already familar with.

But how do you come up with a gutty thesis? You need to start viewing your class material not in terms of "What" questions, but in terms of "How and Why." "What" questions are just descriptive, but how and why is interpretive and more interesting; they make clear what was only vaugely familar at first.

And this means writing takes risk--and risk can be scary. But you can avoid this by meeting with your professor/teacher along the way to stay on track.

As for your title, it will come when you finish writing. I try to make mine a play on words of some familar phrase that is related to what I am writing about or just short and sweet.

Write it without a title. Most of the time when you write a thesis, your idea is too general and as you do the research and narrow it down you will be writing about one thing. Call it that.

Do not put too much pressure on yourself to find lofty words.

Just 'free associate'. In other words, get a paper and pencil, and write down the first thing that comes to mind, putting a number '1' beside it. Then write the 2nd, then the 3rd and so on. Your mind will 'free up' in this way and you will uncover the appropriate title.

Good luck.

Write what you really are interested in. For some term papers I worked on in my past, I had very interesting thesis from time to time. self entertaining value in striptease; psyche of exhibitionists; ...etc etc. Just ask yourself what you really like to do in your daily life; and that is probably the shortest and the surest way to succeed. Be sure to limit your topic very very specific!!

Good Luck
