Don't add "I need a thesis" as an afterthought-- you need a thesis sentence more than anything else! What you've offered so far is a random collection of information about tattoos, each of which could be it's OWN essay; as a Composition instructor, I wouldn't be very happy with the unity of such an essay.

Also, a 5-paragraph theme doesn't mean 5 completely different paragraphs. The first paragraph is an introduction, leading to the thesis. The next three paragraphs are body paragraphs (the bulk of your information). The fifth paragraph is the conclusion, which starts by repeating your thesis idea and then adds any extra stuff you'd like to mention.

If you were doing "Pain" as a thesis, instead of just a paragraph, you could start with your introductory paragraph, ending with your thesis about how a tattoo gets you into a lot of pain. Then you would have a body paragraph about physical pain, one about mental pain, and one about financial pain. Give reasons and examples for each, and they'll fill out fast. Your conclusion would repeat your thesis and let it go. OR if you were doing the meanings of tattoos, your intro would end with a thesis sentence about "tattoos have all kinds of meanings." Then your body paragraphs would split into categories like, Religious meanings, Pop Culture meanings, Personal meanings (or something like that--what do I know from tattoos?) Your conclusion would then repeat the point, and let go.

By "let it go" I mean you give an indication that the essay is over; not just by saying "I'm done" but more gracefully than that. A great technique is to use the exactly same sentence to start and to end your essay. OR ask a question as your first sentence, and ask it again as your 2nd to last sentence, then answer it as your last sentence.

Good luck!
