(also spelled "hip-hop" or "hiphop") refers both to a musical (see hip hop music) and cultural genre or movement (hip hop culture) that was developed predominantly by African Americans and Latinos (primarily of Puerto Rican ethnic heritage) in urban communities, starting in the 1970s.Since first emerging in New York City in the seventies, hip hop has grown to encompass not just rapping, but an entire lifestyle that consistently incorporates diverse elements of ethnicity, technology, art and urban life. There are four fundamental elements in hip hop: hip hop dance (notably breakdancing), urban inspired art (notably graffiti), DJing and MCing.

Hip hop is a cultural movement that began among urban African Americans in New York City in the early 1970s, and has since spread around the world. Some consider beatboxing the fifth element of hip hop; others might add political activism, hip hop fashion, hip hop slang, double dutching (an urban form of rope skipping) or other elements as important facets of hip hop. The term has since come to be a synonym for hip hop music and rap to mainstream audiences. ...

Hip- Hop is just like rap music but way different.A lot of rapping is
heard when listening to hip-hop,but most rap artists express their
daily lives,and how they've previously/presently struggled,their lively hood,
and how they are trying to get out of the ghetto.Hip-hop is also like
art, depending on how you look at it.To many people like you and me it's just music, but to the average rap artist,it's their way of life, because what most rap artists say,is not all fun and games,to
them it's something serious.That's what hip-hop is,papa.

Trash. What the younger generation calls music. All sounds the same to me.More or less a waste of time and space just the same as rap.No talent to produce either type of music.
