Ah, pregnancy in Appalachia...

Whatever amount of water you carry first after learning you're pregnant is the amount your baby will drool. (I was waiting tables with the 1st one & probably had a tray full)

The whole if you have heartburn your baby will have a lot of hair.

If you stand the baby up on your knee they will be bowlegged.

If you raise your arms the umbilical cord will wrap around the baby's neck.

If you don't get what you crave, the baby will have a birthmark in that shape.

Today, I heard that an aging star, in a previously unknown galaxy, exploded in a gamma ray burst 7.5 billion light years away, its light finally reaching Earth early Wednesday. Telescopic measurements show that the burst which occurred when the universe was about half its current age before Earth was formed was bright enough to be seen without a telescope. This weird news is something we never do hear of or see for that matter. The 7.5 billion light years away far eclipses the previous naked eye record of 2.5 million light years. One light year is 5.9 trillion miles. This is roughly halfway to the edge of the universe. Before it exploded the star was about 40 times bigger than our sun. The explosion vaporized any planet nearby. Weird stuff!

Those who deny a pregnant woman the food she craves will get a sty in their eye

If a pregnant woman's face breaks out, she is carrying a girl who will steal all of her mother's beauty

If a pregnant woman sees something ugly or horrible, her baby will be ugly

My grandma is always good at coming up with myths she heard as a child and always at the right time. She told my fiancee the one about food cravings and when I got a pimple she told me the one about the baby stealing my beauty. The seeing something ugly one.. well Im not sure when she told me that one.

That if you look at the full moon with out your keys in your hands, you child will have a cleft lip. This is a local custom, and I have seen women practice this.

I was told to not raise my arms above my head throught my entire pregnancy because the cord would tangle. This got me out of a lot of cleaning.

That you shouldn't hang your clothes to dry cause raising your arms above your head will cause the umbilical cord to wrap around the baby's neck!

That you can tell the sex of the baby by how you're carrying (or about a million different silly ways).
